Overview
UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) units are vital for a whole range of critical computer and server systems to provide back-up power during a power outage. The on-board battery is charged whilst the mains power is present. On failure of the mains power, the battery immediately begins to provide power to the computer or server via an inverter built into the UPS, allowing it to continue operating (often being designed to operate long enough to complete a graceful shut-down procedure). If the UPS is not ready, failure to seamlessly take over and provide power could result in very severe consequences, should the mains power fail. It is vital for operators to be able to determine the status of the unit readily and have a clear indication of any issues.
Replacing traditional LED/LCD status indication with an EVE-enabled display offers many benefits including:
- Numerical readouts in a range of fonts and sizes
- Use the touch screen to replace mechanical buttons and provide a more intuitive user experience
- Display real-time battery and mains parameters graphically on gauges/charts etc.
- Drive a wide range of displays (e.g. low-profile bar-type displays for 1U/2U rack-mount units to 10” for larger units)
- Sound audio alerts in a wide range of tones without additional MCU workload
Key Features:
The following key features of EVE make it ideal for a UPS application:
- Resistive or Capacitive touch support replaces buttons with a more friendly touch interface
- Display graphs and other controls like arc gauge to display trends in a user-friendly way
- Wide range of screens supported for different enclosure form-factors
- Screen rotation allows portrait orientation for upright UPS units (FT81x, BT88x and BT81x)
- Custom fonts allow large text with multi-language support and symbols
- PWM dimming of the backlight driver allows the screen to be dimmed or turned off
- Low power modes reduce EVE current consumption
- Audio output for beeps and warnings in a wide range of tones
