Overview

Server rack units typically take up the most amount of floorspace within data centre, these often have indicator LEDs on the front of the unit displaying drive status and connectivity information. As data centres are becoming more critical to the connected world it is increasingly important to ensure their uptime. Engineering teams are keenly interested in device usage and preventive maintenance on server units to ensure maximum uptime is achieved, thus designers are moving towards including graphical displays in server rack units which display more in-depth utilisation information and connection details.

Integrating an Embedded Video Engine (EVE) IC and a small display brings many benefits including:

• Use colour graphics to add a modern feel to the interface
• Provide more comprehensive drive lifecycle data via widgets such as text and numbers
• Create a more dynamic interface using EVE’s touch capabilities
• Upgrade existing designs without re-writing the parts of the MCU firmware
• Show warnings if data write cycles are exceeding pre-determined limits
• Additional pages such as a settings menu can be added allowing more functionality
