🌡️ Smart Thermostat Innovation with Bridgetek ICs and EVE Development Kits

9 Oct 2026 –

The Rise of Smart Building Automation

Smart buildings are redefining energy efficiency and occupant comfort. At the heart of this transformation lies the smart thermostat — a device that not only regulates temperature but also integrates seamlessly with HVAC, lighting, and energy management systems.

Bridgetek’s ICs, modules, and EVE Development Kits empower engineers and integrators to design thermostats and smart home / smart building controls that go beyond simple control, offering intuitive GUIs, capacitive touch, animated feedback, and versatile connectivity.

Why Bridgetek?

  • EVE Graphics Controllers deliver rich, animated Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) with minimal MCU workload.
  • FT9xx MCUs provide high‑performance processing for control logic, and extensive interfacing options for real‑time sensor data, as well as interfacing to EVE for the HMI.
  • Modules and Development Kits accelerate prototyping, reducing time‑to‑market for smart thermostat solutions.

System Architecture

A Bridgetek‑powered smart thermostat integrates:

  • Sensors for temperature, humidity, and occupancy.
  • Controllers using FT9xx MCUs for reading sensors, decision logic and creating the user interface via the powerful EVE graphics chip.
  • EVE Display for animated, touch‑enabled user interfaces.

Connectivity on the MCU module includes serial protocols (such as Modbus), network connectivity (such as Ethernet) for interfacing to the HVAC system, remote sensors and other parts of the smart building system. It also facilitates direct interfacing to local sensors via I2C, SPI and UART for example.

1 Integrate Bridgetek ICs

Select an MCU and EVE controller for core processing and GUI rendering.

  • The Bridgetek FT90x or FT93x MCU provide sensor and communication bus interfacing, connection to EVE over SPI/QSPI and processing/storage of data
  • Pair with BT815/BT816/BT817/BT818 EVE IC (or any of our other EVE devices) for graphics and touch control as well as audio effects

EVE devices can be used to add a vibrant touch-enabled graphical HMI to any MCU by connecting over SPI or QSPI. This gives designers a great deal of flexibility in the choice of MCU, making EVE ideal for existing smart thermostat designs which already have a specific MCU incorporated or for new designs with specific requirements.

2 Develop GUI with EVE Kit

Create intuitive, animated thermostat interfaces using an EVE IC Development Kit.

  • Incorporate capacitive touch controls
  • Add animated feedback for temperature changes
  • Include multilingual support for global markets

3 Connect Sensors & Modules

Link environmental sensors and communication modules for smart building integration.

  • Attach temperature/humidity sensors
  • Integrate occupancy detection
  • Use Ethernet, Modbus or other protocols to communicate with the Smart Building System

4 Prototype & Test

Validate performance and user experience before deployment.

  • Run HVAC control simulations on the Bridgetek Emulator and IC Development Kit
  • Test GUI responsiveness
  • Test the integration with other parts of the Smart Building System

Benefits for Smart Building Integrators

  • Energy Efficiency: Optimized HVAC control reduces consumption.
  • User Experience: Animated, touch‑enabled GUIs enhance usability.
  • Rapid Deployment: Development kits shorten design cycles.
  • Scalability: Modules adapt to residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

Conclusion

Bridgetek EVE ICs, MCUs and EVE Development Kits enable next‑generation smart thermostats that combine technical precision with marketing appeal. For building automation, they represent a powerful toolkit to deliver comfort, efficiency, and innovation.
